# Multiple Editors, One Brand Style. How to Keep It That Way

To keep clips from different editors visually consistent, use a short video style guide covering colors, fonts, editing pace, logo rules, and captions. Below is what belongs in it and how to use it in practice.

## How to keep one style with multiple editors

Style holds together through a written rulebook, not a verbal agreement or the assumption that "everyone saw the same reference." A document like this typically fixes colors and typography, the style of animation and transitions, rules for music and voice-over, technical export settings (format, aspect ratio), and the tone used in scripts.

Without that list, each editor defaults to their own color grading and their own cutting pace, and even with identical raw footage the finished clips end up looking visually different.

## Do you need a style guide specifically for video

Yes, but not necessarily as a separate document. In practice, it makes more sense to fold the video style guide into the company's existing brand style guide rather than creating a standalone file nobody opens. Inside, seven points are enough. Tone, editing style, use of brand colors, logo placement, audience targeting, caption requirements, and rules for each publishing platform.

## What a new editor needs to get started

A new editor does not need an archive of every past clip, they need a compact starter kit:

* the video style guide itself (colors, fonts, pace, logo)
* 2 to 3 reference clips treated as the style benchmark
* a project template in the editing software with presets already set up
* a list of publishing platforms with the format for each

When this kit is put together in advance, it reduces follow-up questions and revisions after the first edit.

## How to check a new editor's quality

The first one or two clips from a new editor should be checked against the same list as the style guide, not by eye. Do the colors match the brand palette, does the logo sit where it should, does the editing pace match the reference clips. Separately, check whether captions are present and whether the clip is recognizable as this brand's content without a label, if shown to someone outside the project.

## Where to store templates and brand files

Templates, the logo in different formats, music tracks with cleared usage rights, and reference clips belong in one shared folder with a clear structure, accessible to every editor from day one, instead of being sent through chat on every new project. A separate archive folder for finished projects stays apart from active work, so editors do not mix up outdated presets with current ones.

## What to lock down and what to leave to the editor

What gets locked down is what makes the brand recognizable, colors, logo, fonts, captions, the closing frame. Creative choices inside a clip, the order of shots, the specific choice of b-roll, the pace within a scene, are better left to the editor, otherwise the style guide becomes too rigid and unnecessarily limits useful creative decisions.

## What to do first

Put together a one to two page document with colors, fonts, logo and caption rules, attach 2 to 3 reference clips and a shared template folder. From there, check the first clips from each new editor against that same document, instead of relying on memory of "how we usually do it."

The problem is almost never that an editor does bad work, it is that there is no written style guide and the style has to be guessed from old clips. Alina Belichenko puts together a short starter kit for clients with colors, fonts, and reference clips, so a new editor does not have to reinvent the style from scratch.

Illia BizTech builds and maintains websites for companies in Germany in German, English, Russian and Ukrainian, from the first version through ongoing maintenance and search visibility work. One monthly plan covers the website, advertising and content, the scope is agreed in advance and can be moved between them when priorities change. The domain, hosting and ad accounts stay registered to the company, so the work can continue on the existing setup without a full rebuild. That fits businesses moving to Germany or expanding into the German-speaking market who want to explain their task once.
