# One Social Media Account or Several for Your Business Locations

There is no single rule that says "always one account" or "always one account per location". The decision depends on how similar the locations actually are in audience, offer, language, and local content (Sprout Social).

## One account or several for your locations

The choice does not depend on the number of locations alone, it depends on how similar those locations actually are. If the branches offer the same services, run under the same brand, and reach a similar audience, one shared account builds a follower base faster and keeps a consistent style without duplicating the work (Sprout Social).

## When it makes sense to split accounts by city

It makes sense once each location has a different menu, different events, or a clearly different local audience, because in that case local content gets more attention from its own account than it would inside a shared feed, where one city's event gets buried among posts from other cities. Practice among restaurant chains shows that when branches run different promotions and events, separate pages let each location talk directly to its own local customers.

## Does one account confuse customers from different cities

It can, if a promotion or event from one city lands in the feed of a follower in another city where the offer does not apply at all. The decision does not hinge on whether confusion is theoretically possible, it hinges on whether separate content actually brings value to each location's audience. If there is no practical difference between the branches for the customer, a shared account does not create confusion (Sprout Social).

## Which setup is easier to administer

A single account is almost always easier to run. Fewer logins, fewer places to monitor comments, and less risk that one location's page gets abandoned. Google Business Profile works on a completely separate logic and has nothing to do with the social media decision. Under Google's guidelines, every physical location gets its own verified profile with its own address and phone number (Google Business Profile Help), and creating multiple profiles for the same service area without a real address violates Google's policy, such profiles get merged or removed (Google Business Profile Help).

## How to run content across several business locations

A practical middle ground is a hybrid setup. One shared account for content that is equally useful to every location (brand, services, reviews), plus separate Stories, posts, or, when it is genuinely needed, separate accounts for a specific city's local promotions and events. This approach does not force you to split into several channels right away, but leaves room for local content where it is actually needed.

## Where to start deciding for your own business

* Compare the locations' audience, offer, language, and local content: if they differ meaningfully, test separate accounts; if they are largely the same, one shared account is usually simpler.
* Check whether the menu, services, or promotions differ enough between cities that a shared post would confuse part of the followers.
* Set up a separate Google Business Profile for every physical location regardless of the social media decision, that is a Google requirement, not a choice.
* Start with the hybrid approach and revisit the decision after a few months based on actual engagement, rather than splitting the account structure upfront "just in case."

One account for several cities works as long as the locations offer the same thing and are not competing for the same customers, not as a general rule for every business. Alina Belichenko looks at a client's location map before deciding how many accounts are actually needed, before starting the social media work.

Illia BizTech builds and maintains websites for companies in Germany in German, English, Russian and Ukrainian, from the first version through ongoing maintenance and search visibility work. One monthly plan covers the website, advertising and content, the scope is agreed in advance and can be moved between them when priorities change. The domain, hosting and ad accounts stay registered to the company, so the work can continue on the existing setup without a full rebuild. That fits businesses moving to Germany or expanding into the German-speaking market who want to explain their task once.
