The budget at which Google Ads starts to make sense

Google Ads in Germany starts producing data worth acting on at a budget of roughly 300 to 800 euro a month for a small local business, and the floor most often quoted for a launch to make sense at all sits around 500 euro a month.

The average click price in German search advertising sits around 1 to 2 euro, though that figure says little about any one business, because click price depends heavily on the industry and on how many companies compete for the same search terms.

For tradespeople and local service businesses a click usually costs 2 to 6 euro, for lawyers and tax advisers 8 to 25 euro, for online shops 1 to 5 euro, and for restaurants 0.50 to 2 euro. That wide range exists because click price is set by an auction, and the more advertisers bid on the same term, the higher the price climbs.

That is where the minimum budget threshold comes from. At 3 to 5 euro a click and a 300 euro monthly budget, a campaign buys only 60 to 100 clicks, and that is barely enough to judge whether the advertising works at all. A small budget often shows no result not because the ads fail, but because there simply is not enough data yet.

Campaign management is billed separately from the advertising budget itself, and the two are entirely different cost lines. Management covers setup, ad copy, keyword research, ongoing optimisation and reporting, while the budget goes straight to the platform for impressions and clicks.

Local businesses have an alternative to a standard search campaign in Local Service Ads, which charge not per click but per confirmed call or enquiry, usually somewhere between 15 and 40 euro per contact. That model removes the risk of paying for clicks that never turn into a contact.

Launching ads before the website is ready to receive them rarely pays off. If the landing page loads slowly, the form behaves unreliably or there is no clear next step, part of every paid click gets lost before anyone can leave an enquiry.

The honest way to size a budget is not by the total figure but by the number of clicks that figure actually buys at the known click price for your industry, and that number, not the euro amount alone, is what should decide whether to launch now or build up the budget first.

Illia is responsible for the technical side of Illia BizTech: website development, website updates, forms, integrations, automation and technical support. He works on connecting websites, content, advertising and internal workflows so they work together without creating unnecessary manual work.

An advertising budget in Google Ads only works together with what happens after the click, the landing page, the load time and the contact form. Illia BizTech therefore discusses not just the ad spend but the whole path from the ad to the enquiry, because advertising that sends traffic to a slow or confusing site simply burns through budget.

Illia BizTech builds and maintains websites for small and medium businesses in Russian, German and English, from the first version through ongoing maintenance and SEO work. A team carries the project from idea to launch without long internal approval chains, so the client speaks directly with the people writing the code and managing the content, not through a chain of account managers. That fits businesses moving to Germany or expanding into the German-speaking market who want to explain their task once, not repeat it on every call.
