# Seasonal Content Calendar. Weihnachtsmarkt and Other Dates You Can't Miss

There is no universal set of seasonal dates every small business in Germany has to cover. Ostern, Muttertag, Erntedankfest, Buß- und Bettag, Weihnachtsmarkt, Nikolaustag, and Black Friday can all be useful when the occasion genuinely connects to the business and its audience.

## Which dates actually matter for business content in Germany

The complete list depends on the type of business, but the 2026 baseline looks like this:

* Ostern: Karfreitag on April 3, Ostersonntag on April 5, Ostermontag on April 6\. Karfreitag and Ostermontag are statutory holidays across all of Germany.
* Muttertag: May 10, the second Sunday of May.
* Erntedankfest: October 4, the first Sunday of October. Not a statutory holiday, but for businesses tied to food, craft, and regional products this date often lands better than several official holidays.
* Buß- und Bettag: November 18\. This is the only statutory holiday still kept in Saxony alone, in every other German state it is a regular working day.
* Start of the Weihnachtsmarkt season: from November 21 in most cities, from November 20 in Munich, from November 23 in Berlin officially.
* First Advent (1\. Advent): November 29, followed by December 6, 13, and 20.
* Nikolaustag: December 6\. Not a statutory holiday anywhere in Germany, but recognition among audiences beats several official dates.
* Black Friday: November 27, Black Week starts already on November 20, Cyber Monday closes the sale period on November 30.

For businesses in Saxony, Buß- und Bettag deserves a separate note. It falls just two to three days before the Weihnachtsmarkt season begins, so the two dates are easy to prepare in a single shoot rather than as two separate occasions.

## How to plan content for holidays ahead of time

A quarterly calendar is easier to manage. Choose only dates that fit the business and work backward from the planned publication date. The lead time depends on the shoot, approvals, location, and editing, so there is no universal number of weeks.

A quarterly plan is easier to keep in view and easier to revise than a full-year list nobody reopens by March.

## Do you need content for every single holiday

No, not for every one. A date only works when it connects to the business in a real way. Erntedankfest lands harder for a farm shop or a café than for an auto repair shop, Nikolaustag fits a bakery or a children's store better than a construction company.

Trying to cover every date on the list quickly produces content that feels obligatory and gets little response. It is better to choose only the occasions that genuinely connect to the product and audience.

## How many weeks of lead time seasonal content needs

Plan the lead time for a seasonal clip or post series backward from the publication date. A simple shoot may need less time; a project with a location, participants, and approvals needs more. If a clip needs to go live for the Weihnachtsmarkt season start on November 21, preparation should begin early enough to lock the location, script, and a backup date.

For shoot days tied to a specific place, such as a Christmas market or a specific event, it is worth building in extra buffer for bad weather or a rescheduled event.

## What to do if you missed an important date

Publishing content on the holiday itself after the fact rarely helps, audiences read it as a delay rather than an occasion. It works better to shift focus to the next relevant date on the calendar or to reuse the material as evergreen content without a direct holiday tie-in.

For a date like Erntedankfest, which is tied to a season rather than a single day, the topic can be covered across the entire first week of October, not only on the Sunday itself.

## What to do first

Take the dates from the first section, choose only the ones that fit the business, and work backward from each publication date based on the complexity of the shoot. For Saxony specifically, Buß- und Bettag and the Weihnachtsmarkt season start fall close together and can be prepared as one block.

The problem with seasonal content is almost never a lack of ideas, it is that the dates get noticed three days before the holiday, when filming is already too late. Alina Belichenko puts together the relevant holiday dates per client in advance and sets shoot days on the calendar weeks before publication, instead of starting only after a client reminder.

Illia BizTech builds and maintains websites for companies in Germany in German, English, Russian and Ukrainian, from the first version through ongoing maintenance and search visibility work. One monthly plan covers the website, advertising and content, the scope is agreed in advance and can be moved between them when priorities change. The domain, hosting and ad accounts stay registered to the company, so the work can continue on the existing setup without a full rebuild. That fits businesses moving to Germany or expanding into the German-speaking market who want to explain their task once.
