# Does Your Business in Germany Need Ukrainian-Language Content

At the end of 2025, around 1,167,000 Ukrainian citizens lived in Germany ([Destatis](https://www.destatis.de/DE/Themen/Gesellschaft-Umwelt/Bevoelkerung/ukraine.html)), and assuming that entire audience receives Russian-language content just as well is not statistically sound.

## Does a Business in Germany Need Ukrainian-Language Content

Ukrainian-language content is worth it for a business whose customers or followers include people from Ukraine, especially for local service businesses and shops in areas with a visible Ukrainian community, given the more than a million Ukrainian citizens living in the country ([Destatis](https://www.destatis.de/DE/Themen/Gesellschaft-Umwelt/Bevoelkerung/ukraine.html)). Assuming Russian-language content automatically covers that audience too is risky. It's a separate group, with its own language and its own sensitivity to which language it's addressed in.

## How Ukrainian-Speaking Audiences Differ From Russian-Speaking Ones

Ukrainian and Russian are different languages. A business should not infer its audience's preferred language from assumed mutual intelligibility; it is better to use real enquiries, comments, messages, and reactions to published content.

## How to Tell if You Have Ukrainian-Speaking Followers

Instagram's built-in insights show country, city, age, and gender, but not language ([Sprout Social](https://sproutsocial.com/insights/instagram-insights/)), so you won't find Ukrainian-speaking followers through the dashboard alone. The real signal comes from comments and DMs. If part of your audience replies in Ukrainian to a Russian-language post, that's direct proof that audience already exists.

## Is It Worth Making Separate Stories in Ukrainian

Separate Stories in Ukrainian are worth trying mainly because Instagram doesn't let you publish one post in several languages at once anyway. You have to prepare the text separately for each language regardless. Since the text is already going to differ, Stories become a cheap way to test a Ukrainian-language format without committing to a full parallel content line.

## How to Start Small With a New Content Language

Start not by building a whole Ukrainian editorial calendar, but with a handful of Ukrainian captions on posts and Stories you're already publishing. That test needs no new shoot plan and shows immediately whether such posts get saved, get replies, and see more engagement than the usual Russian-language post.

## First Steps With Ukrainian-Language Content

1. Check recent comments and DMs for messages written in Ukrainian
2. Translate the captions on three or four existing posts
3. Publish one or two test Stories entirely in Ukrainian
4. Compare saves, replies, and clicks against your usual Russian-language posts
5. Only then decide whether a separate content line is worth building

Businesses often assume Russian-language content also reaches Ukrainian-speaking followers and never actually check. Alina Belichenko posts a few test pieces in Ukrainian and watches the comments and DMs before suggesting a client build a separate content line.

Illia BizTech builds and maintains websites for companies in Germany in German, English, Russian and Ukrainian, from the first version through ongoing maintenance and search visibility work. One monthly plan covers the website, advertising and content, the scope is agreed in advance and can be moved between them when priorities change. The domain, hosting and ad accounts stay registered to the company, so the work can continue on the existing setup without a full rebuild. That fits businesses moving to Germany or expanding into the German-speaking market who want to explain their task once.
