# How long it takes to build a website

A simple card-style site usually takes two to four weeks from kickoff to launch, a site with its own design, a CMS and several page types usually takes six to twelve weeks, and a larger multi-language build with integrations can stretch to three to six months.

Within each category, what moves the timeline is not the page count but the amount of structural decision-making, a client who already knows exactly which pages and content are needed moves through the project faster than one still working out the offer itself.

The design phase counts separately, a site built on an existing theme skips weeks of design iteration compared with a fully custom design, which needs its own rounds of agreement before development even starts.

The real bottleneck is usually content, not code, a developer can build the structure in days, waiting on final text, photos and approved copy from the client routinely adds weeks that have nothing to do with technical work.

Feedback rounds matter too, each change that touches direction rather than just wording throws part of the schedule back, agreeing on direction before development starts saves more time than compressing development itself.

Integrations, a CRM, a booking system, payment, each adds its own testing time on top of the base build and should be scoped and confirmed before the timeline is quoted, rather than surfacing midway through the project.

Not included in a build timeline are domain and DNS propagation, legal review of the Impressum and privacy policy, and the client's own internal sign-off, all of that runs in parallel but is not the agency's own working time.

A realistic timeline also names the client's own responsibilities, deadlines for supplying content, since the most common cause of a project running long is not development speed but waiting on material from the client.

Worth asking right alongside the timeline is what will be needed from me and by when, since that answer usually decides whether the project lands inside the quoted weeks or not.

A website timeline slips more often while waiting on the client's text and photos than during development itself, and that part rarely gets named upfront. Illia BizTech sets out from the start what is needed from the client and by when, rather than quoting only the team's own working time.

Illia BizTech builds and maintains websites for companies in Germany in German, English, Russian and Ukrainian, from the first version through ongoing maintenance and search visibility work. One monthly plan covers the website, advertising and content, the scope is agreed in advance and can be moved between them when priorities change. The domain, hosting and ad accounts stay registered to the company, so the work can continue on the existing setup without a full rebuild. That fits businesses moving to Germany or expanding into the German-speaking market who want to explain their task once.
