On Buß- und Bettag, the Saxon holiday in November, we were closed as always, the Google profile showed our normal opening hours all day, and there was an angry message on the answering machine that evening. Exactly the same thing happened on Reformationstag. Google does not fill in public holidays on your behalf. The profile has special opening hours for this. You enter individual days there with different hours or as closed. Google [actually requires you to confirm the hours for public holidays even when they do not differ from your usual ones](https://support.google.com/business/answer/6303076?hl=de), and it is that confirmation you are missing. Your case is a particularly thankless one. Buß- und Bettag is [a public holiday only in Saxony, having been abolished in the other states in 1995](https://www.feiertagskalender-deutschland.de/feiertag/buss-und-bettag), and Reformationstag on 31 October sits alongside it among the days [governed by the Saxon public holidays act](https://www.revosax.sachsen.de/vorschrift/3997-SaechsSFG). A nationwide system has no reason to change anything for you on those days by itself. What you experienced is not a fault but a gap, and closing it is your job. That also explains the second half of your observation. Where holiday hours are unconfirmed, Google displays a note saying opening hours may differ on public holidays. That is the state you are in now, and for a customer driving forty minutes that note is not enough. In practice this is a once-a-year job. In December, enter next year's holidays under the names they carry in the calendar: Karfreitag, Ostermontag, Tag der Arbeit, Christi Himmelfahrt, Pfingstmontag, Tag der Deutschen Einheit, Reformationstag, Buß- und Bettag and the Christmas days. Add your annual closure to the same list. That is half an hour and settles the matter for twelve months.
