# Assistants name us without linking us, and the report says zero

We are mentioned in answers, and the Search Console report still shows nothing.

We manufacture measuring instruments. Customers tell us regularly that assistants name our company when asked about this type of instrument. We have several screenshots.

Search Console shows a zero for AI features. The two do not match, and I do not know which of them to believe.

Both are accurate. They measure different things. The Search Console report defines its metric as how many times links to your site were shown in a generative AI feature. What it counts is links.

A mention without a link produces nothing there by construction. Your screenshots and the zero in the report are therefore consistent with each other.

The breakdowns on offer are a short list, namely pages, countries, devices and dates. At the last look, in September 2026, clicks, clickthrough rate and position were absent. Google writes that it expects to add metrics over time and gives no date for it.

In the same guidance Google warns about tools claiming internal metrics and states that no third-party tool has access to its AI systems. Anyone selling you a mention rate is therefore estimating from outside. Somebody has to sit down and count the mentions across a period. The generative AI features report in Search Console measures a single quantity, how many times links to a site were shown inside such a feature. The breakdowns available are pages, countries, devices and dates.

This separates two events that are easily read as one. A named company and a displayed link are separate occurrences, and only the second one reaches the report. Google also records that third-party tools have no access to its AI systems.
