# Several Fiverr sellers offer bought Google reviews. How risky would that actually be for us?

Fiverr and similar platforms have numerous sellers offering bought Google reviews. In the same thread, someone openly defends buying 250 reviews as supposedly legal.

On Fiverr and similar sites I find several sellers selling bought Google reviews.

In a forum thread about this, someone openly writes that they bought 250 reviews on another platform that look convincingly genuine, and guesses that's probably legal.

How risky would that actually be for us if we did it?

Bought reviews are explicitly prohibited in Germany, regardless of the specific circumstances. What that covers is fake customer reviews commissioned and published to promote sales, which is exactly what buying on Fiverr amounts to.

The view from that forum thread, that it's probably legal because the reviews look convincing, confuses technical undetectability with legal permissibility. How convincing a fake review looks changes nothing about the fact that its origin doesn't match reality.

Beyond that risk, there's the platform side too: Google removes detected bought reviews and can suspend the entire business profile for repeated or clear-cut abuse, independent of any legal proceedings.

Anyone who wants genuine, positive reviews has no way around the slower but honest route: asking satisfied customers for a review specifically and promptly after a purchase, say through a link sent right after the service is completed. That brings in fewer at once, but without the risk that the story about the 250 bought reviews actually carries.
