# Automated visitors abandon our form and people get through it

Drop-offs cluster at one step, and that step works faultlessly when a person walks it.

We let holiday apartments. Since the spring of 2026 an unusual number of sessions abandon the third step of our booking form, and they look like automated visits.

We have walked the step through many times ourselves. For a person it is unremarkable.

Published guidance from the Chrome side, last edited on 1 April 2026, describes exactly this kind of abandonment. It names a minimum size for clickable elements and a set of layout habits an agent fails on, among them controls with a very small visible area.

The reason is that a person hits even a tiny cross, because they can see what is meant. The guidance names the boundary, a visible area larger than eight square pixels. An agent works with whatever the page declares as an element, and an element with no graspable area cannot be operated. The same holds for labels distinguishable only by colour or only by position.

Walk the third step once at element level and check size, label and tab order without looking at the appearance. That work improves the same step for people using assistive technology, which pays for it twice over.
