# Age and radius can no longer be set on our job ad on Facebook

Several audience fields are greyed out on an ad for an open position, while they work normally for the other ads in the same account.

We have run product ads for years and they work fine. Now we are promoting an open position for the first time, and suddenly the fields for age, radius and detailed targeting are greyed out.

Same account, same page. Why does this one campaign behave differently?

The difference appears the moment the campaign is declared under the special ad category for employment. Meta requires that declaration for advertising which promotes job offers, and the declaration itself then changes the targeting surface.

What it touches is age, gender and postal code, along with exclusions, lookalike and saved audiences and some of the interests. Some interests can no longer be selected, and an area defined by a city, address or dropped pin gets an expanded radius, so it ends up wider than the one you set. The fields are still there. They simply apply in a limited way.

On where this applies Meta is less clear. It names advertisers located in the US, ads targeting audiences there and in Canada, plus certain European countries and territories. Which European countries those are does not follow from the description. In practice, the greyed-out fields are how you learn that your campaign falls under it.

Reach comes back afterwards through the content. Location and travel belong in the opening lines, along with the shift pattern and the starting date, because the pre-selection now happens in the reader's head. An ad that states shift, distance and expectations plainly filters more reliably than any audience slider.
