# Boost a post in the Instagram app, or run an ad in Ads Manager?

Our dog training school wants sign-ups for a puppy course through Instagram.

Our dog training school has a reel about the new puppy course that's doing well. Right under it in the Instagram app there's a Boost button, and it looks very easy.

What we want, though, are real sign-ups with a name and phone number. Is boosting in the app enough for that?

Sign-ups with a name and phone number need Meta Ads Manager. Instagram's help centre lists more profile visits, more website visits and more messages as the goals for a boost in the app. A form collecting contact details belongs to the Leads objective, one of six objectives in Ads Manager.

Boosting your reel comes with its own rules too. It has to be 90 seconds or less, in full-screen 9:16 vertical format, and can't use licensed music. If you add funds for ads inside the Instagram app on an iPhone, Instagram says an Apple service fee of 30% may apply in most regions.

In Ads Manager, Advantage+ audience is applied automatically where available, and Meta may then show ads to people outside the audience you selected. For a puppy course in your own area, narrow that down. If you'd rather stay in the app, pick messages as the goal and take sign-ups in the chat. That works fine as a start.
