# Does an Instagram business account need a registered company?

I teach as an individual without a registered business, but with a fixed schedule.

I teach yoga on my own, with no studio of my own and no registered business, renting different rooms around town for specific courses. For an overview of dates and basic stats I would like to switch to a business account.

When switching, Instagram asks for a category and a Facebook Page. Does the Page step need an actual registered company behind it, or will I break something by just skipping it?

The category only needs a description that fits what you do, no registration required. Instagram documents this directly. The category itself does not even decide whether you end up with a business account or a creator account, that choice is made a step earlier. The Facebook Page is explicitly optional at this step, the instructions say so directly. Skipping it loses nothing you already have, it only makes some things easier later, such as showing posts on Facebook at the same time. You can connect one afterwards whenever you actually need it.

So skipping it is safe. Pick a category close to the courses, and leave the Facebook step for later if you don't have a Page right now.
