We started running ads three weeks ago. The report shows impressions, there are clicks, and the cost per click looks normal.

Enquiries: zero. Not one. Our supplier says the budget is too small and we need to increase it, and then it will work.

I do not want to increase it while I do not understand what is happening. I last opened our own website about three months ago.

What do I check myself before agreeing to an increase?

The budget is the last thing you touch, because it multiplies the current result, and nothing multiplied stays nothing.

The first thing to check is the path an enquiry takes. Send the form yourself, from a phone and from a computer, and see whether the email arrived, where it landed and how quickly somebody answered. It often turns out the ads were working and the enquiries were sitting in spam.

Second, which search terms you were actually shown for. The account has a search terms report, and it shows the real words people used rather than the ones you entered. The usual picture: a noticeable share of the budget went on "do it yourself", "free", "jobs" and the neighbouring town. The clicks are genuine and normally priced, and no enquiries come or will come, because the wrong people arrived. That is cured with negative keywords and tighter matching, and it costs nothing. While you are there, check whether submitting the form is recorded as a goal. If it is not, the platform does not know what success looks like and optimises for clicks. An increased budget then buys you more clicks, which is exactly what you are being asked for.

Third, the page itself. You say you last opened it three months ago, and the ad leads straight there. Is it clear on the first screen what is on offer and what to do next, is there a price or at least an order of magnitude, does the form work on a phone?

Only after that do you look at campaign settings, audiences and bids. Fewer than half of cases get that far, because the cause is usually found earlier.

The full list of [what to check on a website before starting to advertise](https://illia-biztech.de/en/blog/website-before-ads) is elsewhere. This was only the order to work through once the ads are already running.

Illia has covered the technical part, so I will take the ad side. Very often the cause is that the ad and the page say different things. The ad promises a specific service and a price from, the person clicks and lands on a general home page where they have to go looking. They do not go looking, they leave. You can check this in a minute. Open your ad and your landing page side by side and read both aloud. If the first screen of the page does not repeat the promise from the ad in the same words, the budget is not the problem.
