# A customer ordered from us without ever visiting our site

An order arrived, and the site statistics hold no session for that visit.

We sell coffee equipment. In August 2026 an order came in, and the customer said on the phone that he had placed it inside an AI assistant without opening our shop.

I cannot find a session for it in our statistics. That is awkward for reporting, because sales like these belong to no channel.

This is documented behaviour. Your measurement is working correctly. Perplexity runs a purchase that completes inside the answer, and the customer never reaches the shop.

One detail deserves attention, because reports get it wrong regularly. The feature is called Instant Buy now. The older names from 2024 and 2025 are still circulating, partly because the address of the help page still carries the earlier one. Anyone arguing from one of those names is working from stale material.

There is also a limitation that matters for your figures. The flow is available to users in the United States. A German shop meets it rarely, and a single order of this kind says nothing about the channel yet.

For reporting the consequence is that part of the revenue arrives without an origin. Taking that seriously means a separate column for orders with no session and a question asked when the order is taken.
