# One switch on the domain removed our whole shop from the AI features

It was set once on the domain property, and it took effect on everything beneath it.

We hold several properties in Search Console, one for the domain and one each for the shop and the magazine. In early September 2026 a colleague set the generative AI switch on the domain property to exclude, so the magazine would stay out of AI answers.

Now the shop is out as well. Nothing was touched in the shop's own property.

That is the documented behaviour. Google rolled this control out to all websites worldwide as of 31 August 2026, and it sits under Settings, at Search generative AI. A property inherits its value by default from the closest parent that has changed its own control. Your colleague therefore decided for everything underneath.

Two things matter when you put it back. Returning carries the same latency as excluding, which Google states as one to two days, with cached content sometimes taking longer. And the switch leaves training alone, since a separate control word governs that.

Set the shop property to include so it stops inheriting, and leave the magazine property excluded. Whether the shop returns to those answers, and from what date, is what an [AI visibility report](https://illia-biztech.de/en/ki-sichtbarkeitsbericht) from Illia BizTech records.

Since 31 August 2026 every website worldwide has a Search generative AI control in Search Console. It holds three states, include, exclude and inherit, and the inherited value arrives from the closest parent property that carries a setting of its own.

Google states that excluded content drops out within one to two days, while cached parts can take longer. A page qualifies for such a link only when it is indexed and eligible to be shown in Search with a snippet. Model training sits outside this switch and answers to a different control word.
