Google's own local ranking factors weigh backlinks and reviews as prominence. A website's keywords or design carry far less weight in that specific factor.

A web designer offered our electrical contracting business in Dresden an eight-hundred-euro website package, explaining it would improve our ranking in Google's map view. More keywords in the text and a new design were the promised fixes.

We currently rank fairly well in the map view and wonder whether a redesigned website would change anything about that at all.

Put plainly, very little. Google names exactly three local ranking factors on its support pages, relevance, distance and prominence.

On prominence, Google states directly that it is based partly on how many websites link to the business and how many reviews it has. The website's own text, design or keyword density is absent from that description entirely. A website contributes to map ranking mainly through inbound links from other sites, and its own content plays a supporting role at best.

Eight hundred euros for more keywords and a new design changes little if nobody else links to the site. Money spent on industry directory listings, partner mentions or local press coverage would go further. Where an investment actually reaches map ranking is exactly what [Illia BizTech](https://illia-biztech.de/en/services/website-leads) looks at for a Dresden business.

An electrical business in Dresden is offered an eight-hundred-euro website update as a fix for its map ranking. Google itself names only three factors for that ranking.

Google defines prominence partly through inbound links and reviews, and a website's own content plays only a supporting part. Improving map ranking usually means investing in mentions more than in website text.
