Google names Core Web Vitals as a general tie-breaker for organic search, but leaves them out of its own description of local ranking factors.

A web agency pitched our architecture firm in Dresden a three-thousand-euro project aimed at perfect Core Web Vitals scores. The stated reason was a direct improvement in Google's map ranking.

Our website already runs reasonably well technically. We are not aware of any major loading problems. Does this investment actually pay off specifically for map ranking?

For map ranking specifically, probably not. Google's own Core Web Vitals documentation describes good page experience as a general factor aligned with what its organic ranking systems reward, without mentioning local search or map ranking anywhere.

Google's separate page on local ranking factors names relevance, distance and prominence, with page speed absent from that list entirely. The common claim that mobile page speed is a named map-ranking signal goes beyond what Google itself states on the matter.

A slow, technically poor website still hurts a business, just not specifically through map ranking. For a firm with an already solid site, a targeted investment in mentions and reviews works more directly on map ranking.
