# For our furniture-care tips blog at our joinery in Dresden, we were sold an expensive speed upgrade to appear in Google Discover

Google requires no sign-up and no special markup for Discover, and a widely repeated tie to page speed does not appear in Google's own documentation.

Our joinery in Dresden has run a small blog with care tips for solid-wood furniture for a while, hoping for visitors through Google Discover. An agency then offered us a website speed upgrade for over two thousand euros, arguing this was now a requirement for Discover.

Is that actually true, or are we being sold something we do not need?

Not in that blanket form. Google's own Discover documentation states that content is automatically eligible for Discover as soon as it is indexed by Google and meets its content policies, with no separate sign-up, tag or special markup mentioned anywhere on the page.

As of its 9 March 2026 update, Google recommends good page experience in general terms at this point, without naming Core Web Vitals or mobile-friendliness as a specific, named eligibility factor for Discover. That exact link appears in trade coverage of the February 2026 Discover core update. Google's own account of the update carries no such claim.

A generally well-functioning website is worth having regardless, but a separate speed project built specifically around Discover does not follow from Google's own documentation.
