# Does our robots.txt also cover the booking page that runs on its own subdomain?

Our practice in Detmerode runs its appointment booking through a rented system on its own subdomain. The website itself has a robots.txt where we set a few things for the AI crawlers.

Do I have to put the same rules in place for the booking page, or does the main domain's file cover it?

It does not cover it. Google puts this tersely in the robots.txt specification. The rules in the file apply only to the host, protocol and port number where the file is hosted. A subdomain is a host of its own and needs its own file.

With a rented system that is more than a formality. The file would have to sit where the provider has control, and what it says there is often something nobody at your company has ever seen. It might be a file that allows everything, or no file at all, which also allows everything.

What makes this delicate is the content of such pages. Booking pages routinely carry staff names, services with prices and availability, which is exactly the material that later surfaces in a generated answer and can be out of date there. Checking is quick, since the file always sits directly behind the host name.
