# Google Ads lists Frankfurt twice, and the city's quarters are filed as cities

Frankfurt appears twice in the Google Ads location field, and the entries for individual quarters look like cities of their own.

We are a removals company and wanted to narrow the campaign to the quarters we actually work in. Frankfurt shows up twice in the location field, with entries beside it like Frankfurt-Ost and Frankfurt-Mitte-West.

They are all labelled as a city. Nothing marks them as quarters. There is an entry for the airport too. How do I tell what I am actually selecting?

The label will not tell you, and the file behind it will. Google publishes every location target as a CSV, and in the edition of 12 August 2026 two German cities have names beginning with Frankfurt. Frankfurt am Main carries the id 1004363 and sits in Hesse, Frankfurt an der Oder carries 1003866 and sits in Brandenburg, some five hundred kilometres away.

That is the first place people trip. The second is the quarters. Six entries begin with Frankfurt-, and five of them are filed as City, namely Innenstadt II, Ost, Süd, Mitte-Nord and Mitte-West. Only Nord-West is filed as District. So the one column that could tell you it is a quarter does not. The airport is the third point and the most awkward. Frankfurt Airport sits in the file with the id 9041181 and the status column reads Removal Planned. That holds for all 395 airport rows worldwide and for 23 German rows in total. Building a campaign on that target means building on a row Google has flagged for removal.

You can check all of this yourself in five minutes. Download the file, find your targets, write down the ids, and work with numbers from then on, since the names will not settle it. If it turns out your structure rests on quarters Google files differently from how you assumed, [Illia BizTech](https://illia-biztech.de/en) sorts that out with you. The airport is the one to look at first.

Targeting a city in Google Ads means typing its name and picking from a list of near-identical suggestions. Germany has two cities called Frankfurt, in two different states. The same list also offers city quarters, which look exactly like standalone towns to anyone scanning quickly.

Every suggestion carries the administrative area above it and an estimated reach figure. Read together, those two lines separate one Frankfurt from the other and a quarter from the whole city. Reopening the saved list afterwards shows what the campaign is actually targeting.
