Our business is based in Connewitz, and when we search for our service from there, we reliably come out on top of the map results.

A customer from Gohlis-Süd recently told us that searching the exact same thing from there, our listing didn't show up at all, even though it's still the same city and the distance isn't that great.

How can the same business rank at the top in its own district and disappear entirely a bit further away in the same city?

Proximity to the person searching gets recalculated for every single search, based on their actual location at that moment, the city as a whole barely factors in. So the same listing with identical reviews and identical content can be the clear top result for someone three streets away and disappear entirely from the map for someone on the other side of the same city, with nothing actually broken in the system.

Experienced practitioners confirm this as normal system behavior, nothing glitching here, with a rough rule of thumb of around eight to fifteen kilometers of realistic ranking radius even for an otherwise flawless profile. Trying to rank equally well across an entire city works against how the system is actually built. It makes more sense to deliberately build up your core area around Connewitz, say through genuinely location-specific content for individual districts, since citywide parity is something the system was never designed to give you in the first place.
