# My uncle and I run two taxi businesses with the same name in the same city. Can he also set up his own Google listing?

Two legally separate taxi businesses with the same name in the same city, split between an uncle and a nephew. It isn't clear whether a second Google listing under the same name will hold up.

My uncle and I each run our own taxi business, both under the same company name, with vehicles at different addresses in the same city. Legally these are two separate businesses.

So far only my Google listing exists under this name. My uncle now wants to set up his own, for his own vehicles and his own phone number.

Will his listing hold up, or will Google throw it out again as a duplicate?

For a taxi business the problem starts before the second listing even exists. A taxi company has no address customers travel to, so the listing shouldn't carry a visible pin on the map at all, only a service area. A pin at the depot address is the first reason Google later flags a listing as a duplicate.

The second reason is the identical name in the same city. Google reliably reads two listings with the same name, a similar category and an overlapping area as one business, and eventually removes the newer, less established listing, regardless of the fact that these are legally two companies.

For the second listing to hold up, it needs clear signals of its own: its own phone number, its own website or at least its own page, and ideally a separate Google account managing it instead of one account running both listings.

There's not much way around the name itself. A qualifier that tells the two businesses apart, a first name or a district, cuts the risk of another merge considerably, even while the core of the name stays the same.

For two businesses that are already legally separate, that effort is small next to the alternative: a listing that keeps disappearing every time Google decides both businesses are one and the same.
