Should we just add 'Dresden' to our company name in the Google profile? # Should we just add 'Dresden' to our company name in the Google profile? A business based in Bischofswerda is considering adding the city name Dresden directly to its company name in the Google profile to be found better there. * ##### Asked by SharpCipher244 * ##### Asked on October 19, 2026 We're based in Bischofswerda, and a large share of our customers come from Dresden. A competitor in our trade is listed in their Google profile as, say, 'Smith Plumbing Dresden,' even though they're based in Dresden about as little as we are. That seems to be working well for them, their map placement for searches in Dresden is noticeably better than ours. Should we just adopt the same kind of name with 'Dresden' in it? #### Answers ![Portrait of Illia Belichenko, technical specialist at Illia BizTech](/_ipx/f_webp,q_75/https://cms.illia-biztech.de/uploads/small_Illia_Belichenko_author_81f88864f0.png) ##### Illia Belichenko · Founder & Technical Lead ✓ Accepted answer October 19, 2026 A company name with a city name baked in violates Google's guidelines for business profiles, no matter how well it seems to work in the short term. Only what's actually on the physical sign or in the official business documents belongs in the name, a place doesn't normally count. The fact that it works for the competitor doesn't mean it stays consequence-free. A name like that can be reported through 'Suggest an edit,' and Google does remove the improper addition regularly, if not immediately. That competitor's edge can disappear at any point, while you'd have committed the same violation in the meantime. The effect the name fakes actually comes from genuine relevance to the search term instead of from the name itself. A precisely matched category, a service area that includes Dresden, and website content that names Dresden directly move the same visibility without the entry risking removal at the next cleanup pass. Weighing a quick trick against durable visibility in Dresden is exactly the kind of call [Illia BizTech](https://illia-biztech.de/de) regularly works through for businesses from the Bautzen district. ##### #### [As a supplier to microelectronics-industry companies in Dresden we spend almost nothing on digitalisation, is that normal for our scale](/en/forum/als-zulieferbetrieb-fur-die-mikroelektronik-branche-in-dresden-geben-wir-kaum-etwas-fur-digitalisierung-aus-ist-das-normal-fur-unsere-gro-enordnung) October 19, 2026 [](/en/forum/als-zulieferbetrieb-fur-die-mikroelektronik-branche-in-dresden-geben-wir-kaum-etwas-fur-digitalisierung-aus-ist-das-normal-fur-unsere-gro-enordnung) #### [Our tailoring and alterations shop in Dresden only has an Instagram page, can we just put that link in the Google profile's Website field](/en/forum/fur-unsere-anderungsschneiderei-in-dresden-gibt-es-nur-eine-instagram-seite-durfen-wir-den-link-einfach-ins-website-feld-des-google-profils-eintragen) October 18, 2026 [](/en/forum/fur-unsere-anderungsschneiderei-in-dresden-gibt-es-nur-eine-instagram-seite-durfen-wir-den-link-einfach-ins-website-feld-des-google-profils-eintragen) #### [A quote request arrived by email but disappeared from the app before we could reply](/en/forum/eine-angebotsanfrage-kam-per-mail-an-ist-aber-aus-der-app-verschwunden-bevor-wir-antworten-konnten) October 17, 2026 [](/en/forum/eine-angebotsanfrage-kam-per-mail-an-ist-aber-aus-der-app-verschwunden-bevor-wir-antworten-konnten) #### [A three-thousand-euro project promises perfect Core Web Vitals for our website, said to directly boost our map ranking](/en/forum/fur-dreitausend-euro-soll-unsere-website-auf-perfekte-core-web-vitals-gebracht-werden-angeblich-zahlt-das-direkt-furs-kartenranking) October 17, 2026 [](/en/forum/fur-dreitausend-euro-soll-unsere-website-auf-perfekte-core-web-vitals-gebracht-werden-angeblich-zahlt-das-direkt-furs-kartenranking) #### [A customer ordered our candles from our manufactory in Erlangen straight through Perplexity, without ever opening our online shop, how does that work?](/en/forum/ein-kunde-hat-unsere-manufaktur-kerzen-aus-erlangen-direkt-uber-perplexity-bestellt-ohne-unseren-online-shop-je-selbst-zu-offnen-wie-geht-das) October 17, 2026 [](/en/forum/ein-kunde-hat-unsere-manufaktur-kerzen-aus-erlangen-direkt-uber-perplexity-bestellt-ohne-unseren-online-shop-je-selbst-zu-offnen-wie-geht-das) **Share** **Topics** * Google Business Profile * company name
