Four thousand euros paid, a PDF of green ticks delivered, and tabbing through the order form dead-ends. A second audit will not get through the budget.

In the spring we paid around 4,000 euros for accessibility work and received a PDF full of green ticks afterwards.

Looking at it myself, I get stuck with the tab key in the order form, and the light grey text on a white background is barely readable. The agency points to a tool showing 98 points.

I do not want an argument, I want a solid list I can use to say this particular point is still missing. Another audit costing four figures will not get through here at the moment.

The two things you noticed are already the first two items on that list. You do not need an audit to establish them.

Start with the score, because that is where the misunderstanding lives. Automated tools check what can be checked mechanically: missing alternative text, missing labels, contrast values in the code.

No tool can see whether you can get through a form with the keyboard, whether the order makes sense, or whether an alternative text describes the picture rather than just naming a file. So 98 points and an unusable order form sit together quite comfortably.

The yardstick you measure against is WCAG 2.1 at level AA. For contrast it gives you a hard number: [at least 4.5 to 1 for ordinary text and 3 to 1 for large text](https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG21/#contrast-minimum). That turns "barely readable" into a line on your list that nobody can argue with. Any free contrast calculator will work the figure out, you only need the two colour values.

You can do the keyboard test yourself in ten minutes. Put the mouse aside and go through the entire ordering process with the tab key. Write down three things: where you cannot see what the focus is on, where you cannot get any further, and where the order you are taken in contradicts what your eye expects. Every one of those is a defect the agency cannot talk its way out of.

Add two more moves. Zoom the page to 200 per cent in the browser and check whether everything is still reachable. And ask to see the alternative text on your most important images, either in the content system or through the browser's page information.

I would steer you away from overlay widgets that promise accessibility through a script laid over the site. They do not address the causes, and with some assistive software they introduce fresh problems.

Send the result as a numbered list with screenshots and page addresses rather than as a complaint. A list somebody can work through almost always leads to the fixes, whereas general dissatisfaction reopens the argument about the score.
