Sold as one package, a text file in the site root, split-up paragraphs and extra markup.

We hire out construction machinery. In the summer of 2026 a provider offered us an AI optimisation package in three parts, a text file in our site root, a division of our copy into small fragments, and additional structural markup.

The price runs to four figures. Before agreeing I would like to know whether Google reads any of it.

Google has addressed all three parts in its own guidance, and said the same thing about each. The sentence runs that you do not need to create new machine readable files, AI text files, markup or Markdown to appear in Google Search including its generative AI capabilities, because Google Search itself does not use them.

On the division into fragments the guidance says there is no requirement to break content into tiny pieces for an AI to understand it better. On the markup it says structured data is not required for generative AI search and that no special schema exists for it.

About the file in the site root Google is gentler. Maintaining such files for other services is entirely fine, and doing so will neither harm nor help visibility. That leaves the price as the only part of the package with a certain effect.

One word on how far those sentences reach, because providers like to shorten them. Every one of these statements is about Google Search. It says nothing about ChatGPT or Perplexity, and those vendors decide for themselves what they read. An [AI visibility report](https://illia-biztech.de/en/ki-sichtbarkeitsbericht) at Illia BizTech puts a number on your pages in answers like these, and the invoice afterwards separates the work from the file.

Google's guidance on optimising for AI features names three things that are commonly sold. New machine readable files are unnecessary because Search does not use them. Content does not have to be broken into tiny pieces to be understood. Structured data is not required for generative AI search.

The file in the site root gets a milder sentence, since maintaining one for other services neither harms nor helps visibility. What matters more is how far these statements reach. They describe Google Search. Work aimed at other vendors runs into the fact that each of them decides independently what to read.
