Industrial plant maintenance. The process is two hours in a workshop, and the result is that nothing broke.

We maintain industrial plant. The work looks like a person in overalls next to a metal box.

Everyone advises filming the process, showing the result, running stories. For us the process is two hours in the workshop with a spanner in hand, and the result is that nothing broke and the line did not stop. There is nothing to show, and there are no attractive shots and never will be.

Hiring a camera operator for this makes no sense to me.

What do you film when there is nothing to show?

Start with what is already happening in the work.

Maintenance films beautifully; you just film the difference rather than the procedure. The assembly you took out, before and after. A worn bearing next to a new one. Half a minute of sound in which you can hear that the machine is about to fail while the owner cannot. That is your material, and it is stronger than a handsome workshop, because it shows what a person cannot see for themselves.

The second source is the questions you are asked every week. How often is servicing needed, what happens if you skip it, why can we not do it ourselves. Your fitter answers that to camera in a minute, standing at that very metal box.

And your "nothing broke" sounds entirely different to a customer if you say alongside it what a day of downtime costs. That is worth saying out loud; few of them have worked it out.

Regularity matters more than picture quality. Three simple, understandable posts a week do more than one polished one a month, because the algorithm and the human respond to consistency in the same way.

The commonest mistake at the start is waiting for perfect equipment. Light from a window and a phone cover ninety per cent of it, and the sound is fixed with a twenty-euro clip-on microphone.

On the filming itself, on light and sound, there is [an article about using a phone instead of a studio](https://illia-biztech.de/en/blog/content-selbst-drehen-handy); this was only about what to film when there is nothing to show.

One thing usually surfaces a couple of months in.

Once material starts accumulating it needs a place on the website, or it lives only in the feed and is gone within a week. A section with examples of work or short explanations collects the same video a second time, this time for search. That is not a project of its own. One page where the filming is stored, with a date and a couple of lines of text, is enough.
