# Our firewall admits AI robots only from an address list dated 2025

Authoritative according to the vendor, and the file's creation date is over a year old.

Our host set up a rule that admits AI robots only from the address ranges the vendor publishes. The vendor's own instructions say the same.

When I opened the files myself on 8 September 2026 they carried creation timestamps from February and October 2025\. Between them they held eight and four address prefixes.

You have found the weak point of that arrangement. Perplexity describes its published address files as the source of truth for firewall rules, and those same files, on the day you opened them, carried creation timestamps from the previous year. For comparison, the equivalent file from OpenAI was stamped 4 September 2026 on that same day.

What follows is an operating rule. No accusation against the vendor is implied. A list declared authoritative has to be reloaded regularly with its timestamp logged, because a list that quietly freezes behaves like a block. Ask your host when it last loaded them and what happens when a file stays unchanged for months.

Anyone wanting to admit the robots behind Perplexity search deliberately is pointed by the vendor's instructions at published address files, described there as the source of truth for firewall rules.

On 8 September 2026 those files carried creation timestamps from February and October 2025 and held eight and four address prefixes respectively. The equivalent file from another vendor was freshly stamped on the same day. A rule built on that basis needs regular reloading with a log entry to match.
