For a while now those corners have been cut off in the profile grid, and the page looks messy. Since January 2025, Instagram's profile grid has shown tall rectangular thumbnails, and that's where the edges of older square posts disappear. The post itself still shows in full when opened. Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, explained the change by saying most photos and videos uploaded now are vertical. Instagram has not published an exact ratio. Third-party guides give 3:4 or, less often, 4:5. Since late February 2026 you can edit the grid thumbnail of a post that's already published, and in June 2026 Instagram added a way to reorder the grid. For older posts that matter, shift the crop until the date or price is visible again. For new content creation, keep text and logos near the centre with room to spare on every side, because the profile shows a different shape from the feed. On older square posts the edges now get cut off in the grid, while the post itself still opens in full. Instagram has published no official ratio, and third-party guides give 3:4 or, less often, 4:5. Since late February 2026 the grid thumbnail of a published post can be edited, and since June 2026 the grid order can be changed too. For content creation this means placing text and logos centrally, well away from every edge, so a post works in both the feed and the profile grid.
