An acquaintance advises a second small site, our web person warns about duplicate content. * ##### Asked on August 28, 2026 Besides our main domain we have a second one with our old company name, and since May a third with the name of a product we advertise heavily. An acquaintance said we should put a small site of its own on the third one so that we appear twice on Google. Our web person says that would create duplicate content and harm us. It is how they do it. There are two ways to bring several domains to one website. With a real redirect the browser moves to the main domain and the address bar shows it. With the second arrangement the secondary domain stays in the address bar and serves the same content, and then your website exists at three addresses as far as Google is concerned. That is what to check: type the old domain in and see what stays at the top. If it stays, put a permanent redirect on it pointing at the main domain. After that the matter is closed, and the case is so routine that [Google itself describes how to handle duplicate content across domains](https://developers.google.com/search/blog/2009/12/handling-legitimate-cross-domain?hl=de). I would drop the idea of a separate site for the product name. It does not buy you double visibility. It buys you a second property that starts from nothing, needs maintaining, and takes attention away from your main site. A domain of its own starts to pay once the product is a brand with an audience of its own, and even then a strong page on the main site usually gets there faster. Two small things to finish, because they tend to fall off the end. Keep renewing the secondary domains even though nobody types them, since a released domain carrying your former company name is there for anyone to take.
