# A radius in Google Maps ads that nobody chose | Illia BizTech

# We never set a radius and the campaign is running in one anyway

Places nobody picked show up in the report, and no radius appears anywhere in the settings.

We have three furniture stores and one campaign with store goals. Going through the reports in September 2026 we noticed places we never selected, some of them a long way off.

I cannot find a radius in the settings. Only the three addresses are listed. The campaign behaves as though a radius exists.

One exists. You simply did not set it. Google's page on campaigns with store goals describes targeting by radius around each location from the Business Profile, taken either from the campaign's own location targeting or determined automatically. The same page names what feeds the automatic figure, which is the vertical, the population density and the competitors already present.

That answers your question in an uncomfortable way. The value is real, it did not come from you, and it moves with those three inputs.

A second setting is skipped far more often. Location targeting defaults to reaching people in, regularly in, or who have shown interest in your targeted locations. The narrower option keeps only presence and regular presence. That difference explains distant places in a report better than any radius does.

Both sit in the same panel and take about ten minutes to check. Open the campaign's location settings, look at that choice first, then at the radius against each address. Nobody having been back in since the campaign was built would be the actual finding, and standing management at [Illia BizTech](https://illia-biztech.de/en/) closes that gap.

Campaigns with store goals are built around each listing held in the Business Profile. Where no figure of your own exists, Google determines the reach around the location itself, drawing on the vertical, the population density and the competitors already trading nearby.

The listing is therefore the anchor point for the paid reach as well, which is why a campaign inherits whatever the listing says. Alongside the radius, a second choice decides whether only people present are reached or people who have shown interest in the area as well. The wider option is the default and accounts for distant places turning up in reports.
