# Does a private Instagram account go public when switched to business?

Our tattoo studio only shows client designs to approved followers.

Our tattoo studio has run a private Instagram account for two years, because some clients don't want their designs visible to just anyone. We now want to switch to a business account so booking requests come through the contact button.

Does the account stay private after the switch, or does something happen to the current followers?

Instagram's own help is clear on this. A private personal account automatically becomes public when it switches to a professional account. That's part of the switch itself, and it applies to every account making the change.

At the same time, every pending follow request gets automatically accepted. Anyone who was simply waiting for approval becomes a follower without any further action, whether that was intended right now or not.

For a studio with sensitive client photos that's a real change in visibility, felt by everyone who was still on the waiting list. A second account that starts out public, kept just for booking requests, is the cleaner route here than switching the existing private one.
